Eric Lefkofsky, a long-time entrepreneur, has turned his attention to the healthcare industry. In particular, he is focused on helping physicians in their quest to cure cancer patients. He co-founded Tempus, Inc. with a business partner after witnessing himself the holes in the industry in regards to digital technology and data collection. Tempus is designed to fill in these gaps and giving physicians a digital platform that is presented in an effective and streamlined way.
The technology used by Tempus is designed to create the world’s largest database when it comes to cancer care. Their software analyzes a patients clinical and molecular data and compares it back against this database. The analytics software can show which treatments provide the best outcomes given that patients situation. The team at Tempus has made an affordable way to manage this because of how they collect the information that goes into the database. The platform includes both an optical character recognition AI as well as containing a natural language processor. This system captures information found in physician notes which is then used by other physicians to treat their patients.
