Dwight Yorke and Wes Edens, Who Created Aston Villa, Discuss Their New Job at Newcastle

Yorke met Edens in New York, with the Villa owner acting as the main face of the consortium that controls the club last summer. Yorke said: “We met in New York at the hotel and the opportunity of potentially taking this team back to where it belongs, where it’s been for so long. It was an excellent opportunity. I spoke about the club and how I’d like to be involved. “The response I got from Wes was positive. Wes Edens was the main face of the deal. He went out there and worked his socks off on it, and I was happy with how he was working on the club.

How did Dwight Yorke get the job?

According to the Mirror, Yorke was meant to hold a press conference after meeting Edens, asking about Terry’s vacant position. But it was also his and Edens’ plan to speak about Villa’s coaching set-up. But then Edens pulled out of the meeting, which the former Aston Villa star says has put him off from getting a job at the club.

Yorke now claims he asked to meet with Edens over a day after Terry’s departure but still didn’t get an answer. Terry replaced Gerard Houllier and spent six months working under Roberto Di Matteo at Villa Park before being sacked in March, with Ron Gourlay returning for his second spell at the club. “I was angry and frustrated,” Yorke told the Birmingham Mail. “I went to the meeting, but it was all done and dusted.

How he met Wes Edens

Yorke was speaking to Sky Sports in the recent past when he revealed that Edens and chairman Randy Lerner first gave him the impression that they might want him to take charge after he’d helped to install John Terry. “After everything that transpired, it seemed like Villa Park and the chairman wanted me to get involved,” he said at the time. “I think Randy was interested in me coaching, and I did have a meeting with Randy at the airport in London, and he did say to me that he wanted me to do that. But after that meeting, I was informed that my name hadn’t even come up at all. It was amazing because I felt that Randy and Wes were interested in me, but it was not an offer from Randy.”
