The survey results found that an increasing number of Americans are interested in veganism or plant-based eating, with personal health and environmental concerns being the top motivators.
According to the survey, 33% of respondents stated that they have reduced their meat consumption in the past year, with 21% stating that they have done so due to environmental concerns.
Additionally, 22% of respondents said they are “vegan-curious,” indicating that they are interested in adopting a vegan or plant-based diet but have not yet made the switch.
When asked about their primary motivators for a vegan or plant-based diet, most respondents cited health reasons (57%), such as reducing the risk of chronic disease and improving overall well-being.
Environmental concerns were also a significant factor, with 39% of respondents citing the negative impact of animal agriculture on the environment as a motivation for plant-based eating.
Interestingly, the taste was not a significant factor in determining whether or not respondents would consider a vegan or plant-based diet, with only 7% stating that taste was a motivator for choosing plant-based options.
The survey also found that younger generations are more likely to be interested in plant-based eating, with 54% of respondents aged 18-24 stating that they have reduced their meat consumption in the past year.
