John Hailer is a former CEO at Natixis, a French bank and asset management. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of the company from 1995 to 1999. John Hailer’s professional career has been characterized by inclusive leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship and global reach. In 2016 he co-founded L’Orient-Le Jour, an online business publication considered one of France’s most influential financial publications. The paper has a readership of 180 000 and is distributed in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. He has also founded the company Ayla Energy, which focuses on renewable energy in developing economies. Collectively, Hailer has served in advisory roles for companies such as PWC, BNP Paribas, Convergys and Bain & Company. He holds a Master’s Degrees in Political Science from Georgetown University and an MBA from Wharton Business School.
hER began his professional career in the early 1980s, at the age of 28, as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. Following his time in consulting He moved on to work for PWC and BNP Paribas before becoming a Managing Director of Bain & Company. In 1995 he was appointed CEO of Natixis, a French financial institution specializing in asset management and private banking. HE guided the bank through a period of expansion. Specifically, he oversaw the acquisition of Banque Fédérative du Crédit Mutuel. Additional acquisitions included Credit du Nord and Banque Indosuez.
In 1999 He left his role as Natixis’ CEO to pursue other leadership opportunities but didn’t completely retire from the banking industry. Instead, John Hailer became President of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). At the ICC, John Hailer was responsible for overseeing cross-cultural business relationships. John Hailer’s leadership at the ICC has been praised by the President of France and other officials in France and Europe.
Following his role at the ICC, John became Managing Director of Bain & Company in 2001. Under his management, Bain & Company expanded to a global level. In 2004 and 2005 Hailer oversaw the firm’s entry into both India and Brazil, which gave it a presence in 13 countries worldwide.
