The Launch House is a new venture capital fund seeking to address early-stage startups’ needs and objectives.
The organization was founded by David Chang, General Partner at Canaan Partners, along with a team of experienced entrepreneurs and investors. The organization focuses on early-stage and seed-stage startups across various industries, but with an emphasis on software companies in the areas of mobile, semiconductors/cloud computing, social media, and marketplaces.
It has received $75 million in total funding from institutional partners, including Canaan Partners and Foundation Capital. The Launch House’s advisory board includes Facebook, Google, and Microsoft executives.
Launch House organization provides a flexible new alternative to traditional venture capital, allowing entrepreneurs to raise capital from multiple sources, including traditional institutional investors and alternative financing such as crowdfunding. Launch House also serves as an incubator, providing entrepreneurs with personalized mentoring and services while building their companies.
The organization also provides funding and support to software companies building mobile applications.
In March 2015, the organization launched the first-of-its-kind combination of Venture Capital and Crowdfunding platform.
The organization’s $75 million venture capital fund, House Capital (HCC), invests in startups through traditional venture capital investment (VC) in seed rounds of up to $2.5 million in funding. Launch House also works with companies that have received investments from traditional VC funds, such as Canaan Partners and Foundation Capital, prior to their initial public offering (IPO).
The organization also provides seed funding and services to help companies in the incubator phase, including coaching and mentoring.
In addition, the organization provides a unique funding and support package to software companies developing mobile applications of any kind. The organization launched its first investment in January 2015. The round was led by Canaan Partners and included Microsoft Corporation, Matrix Partners China, SoftBank Technology Ventures Beijing, Foundation Capital, and others. In June 2015, the company raised its second round with financing from Canaan Partners, Microsoft Corporation, Matrix Partner China, SoftBank Technology Ventures Beijing, and Ratan Tata, founder of the Tata Group.
